Ski resorts are arming themselves against climate change with millions of investments. But, is skiing still up-to-date? The winters are getting milder. The snow line is rising and many small ski areas are threatened with closure.
The glacier is disappearing, the snow in the mountains falls far too erratically. Climate change is putting massive pressure on the Alpine region and is also endangering our ski nation Austria. Small ski areas below 1500 meters are struggling to survive. Latest example: Lackenhof. The former family paradise on winter holidays is outdated and, above all, cannot guarantee snow. A new concept is to save the tourism region. The Carinthian Dobratsch shows that it is possible to be successful without alpine skiing. The region has transformed from a ski area into a nature park that has become attractive for ski tourers, cross-country skiers and hikers and has seen more crowds than before.
As part of the Initiative 4Sustainability the ProSiebenSat.1 PULS Group offers a climate offensive to all their senders and is gradually expanding climate reporting. The self-produced documentary series “Bad Climate” on PULS 24 marks the start of the TV year 2022 with exciting program highlights and focal points all about the climate.
