Allées de l’Oulle, relay car parks… the new forms of mobility in Greater Avignon are taking shape
The local public company Tecelys continue the preparation of major projects that contribute to the reconfiguration of mobility in Avignon with several interconnected projects. Among them, the redevelopment of the alleys of Oulle. This vast esplanade between the ramparts and the Rhône, the Daladier bridge and the Europe bridge, is benefiting from €65 million for an ambitious project: the redevelopment of the public space now partly occupied by a car park, reception the extension of the tram line to the Île Piot car park by the end of 2025, the construction of a large pedestrian platform between the Porte de l’Oulle and the cruise ship quay and the circulation of public transport with the possible arrival of a shuttle from the future Les Angles relay car park.
Added to this is the City’s project to take up a car lane along the quay to create a cycle lane which joins, under the Pont de l’Europe, a footbridge three meters wide and 300 long overhanging du Rhône to reach the TGV station.

On the financial level, the State provides its assistance in the footsteps of the lines blocked by Grand Avignon. The City of Avignon is currently working with the conurbation on the financial distribution key and the governance of the project, of which Tecelys will be the linchpin. Two years of work would begin in early 2024 for an inauguration close to that of the commissioning of the extension of the tram. Its trains will then cross the Daladier bridge which will retain its current cycle facilities.
Angles Shuttle
Other adapted studies with the Vaucluse Departmental Council relate to the reorganization, on the Vaucluse side, of the Pont de l’Europe interchange. These reflections included the arrival of the future shuttle from the Angles park and ride project. Several options are available for its itinerary: serve the car park on Île Piot, the tram stops along the ramparts, a connection to the TGV station via the industrial zone of Courtine…
Upcoming studies on the flows and behavior of users will allow arbitration. The shuttle will leave from the relay car park with a minimum of 360 spaces, towards Avignon via the RN 100 via a dedicated access ramp and will cross the bridge on a central axis protected between the two car traffic lanes. For the time being, the best spreading of traffic peaks excludes the creation of a dedicated lane to go up to Les Angles. In the meantime, Tecelys is stepping up the pace to prepare the work on the parking area and the shuttle route for delivery by 2024 before the work on the tram on the Daladier bridge.
Numerous relay car parks
As for the deployment of relay car parks, that of Saint-Chamand with 361 spaces on three half-storey levels is currently under construction. It will welcome its first users in October 2022. Work on the 330 parking spaces of Agroparc will begin at the end of 2022-beginning of 2023.
The Réal Panier roundabout development project benefits from a budget of €16.5 million for the purchase of land in order to create a relay car park with a minimum of 200 spaces and the development of line 9 as a Chrono’hop. for 2024. Tecelys, which takes over the operation of public transport in July, is also studying the transformation of bus lines 5 and 6 to the Chron’hop format, which already has two operational lines, C2 and C3. Finally, the SPL is carrying out the last 400 meters of the development of the Carnot-Carreterie axis up to the ramparts, a 5.6 M€ project on behalf of the city.
