The mayor of Toulouse imagines the LGV “between 2030 and 2032”
2022 will be the year of the South cable car in Toulouse, it will also be the year of the first civil engineering works on the third metro line, the start of the construction site for the extension of line B and the creation of the LGV financing company Toulouse-Bordeaux. Jean-Luc Moudenc, the mayor of Toulouse, takes stock of the schedule of all these major projects that will structure Toulouse in the coming years.
Is the financing of the third metro line really complete?
Yes, it’s been official for over a year, no offense to opponents. Things are progressing, there are pre-construction sites open at Place de l’Ormeau, in Bonnefoy. And in eleven months, we start the major civil engineering project. We will designate the companies holding the samples in the coming months.
Can you confirm that this third line will be operational at the end of 2028?
I confirm that the work will start at the end of the year. The duration of the work as designated is six years.
The Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region voted on Monday an extension of 225 million euros for the LGV Toulouse-Bordeaux, to compensate for the non-participation of certain communities. Is this LGV on track for good?
Yes, it is the culmination of a struggle of a few over several years. I am happy that Nouvelle-Aquitaine is there and completes the little that was missing, it was 2% of the financing plan. Only small communities refused to participate. It was agreed that in the region where there would be failures, it would be the region that would compensate.
Start of work in 2024 said Jean Castex when he formalized the financing of the State last April. This LGV which will make it possible to reach Paris in a little more than 3 hours, is it for 2030?
Yes, the Prime Minister has been clear, he is in control of this affair. This means that the project will last between six and eight years. Put on a commissioning between 2030 and 2032, let’s be careful.
The LGV is also here a new face for Matabiau, and this famous Occitanie Tower of 150 meters. Will she see the light of day?
I wish. There is an appeal filed by three associations and only two residents against this Tour Occitanie so I believe there is no problem. On the other hand, it is necessary to respect the time of justice, when this recourse will be purged, the developer will be able to build.
All these transport files create political tensions. The PS president of the Department of Haute-Garonne has expressed his doubts about the timetable and the financing of the third metro line. And on the Réseau Express Vélo (REV), you said that the Department took the Toulousains for the “sub Haut-Garonne”. Have you lost your temper?
It’s not my type. I pointed out that the REV is financed by the Department outside the Metropolis, whereas within the Metropolis of Toulouse, the Department has chosen not to put a penny. I would have liked a participation, especially since the Metropolis provides 73% of the tax revenue of the Department. We will do whatever happens with this Réseau Express Vélo on our territory.
Is it the presidential campaign that electrifies the debates?
No, I don’t think Georges Méric is a candidate, neither do I. That’s not the point. I do not see the relationship between the presidential election and the Réseau Express Vélo. I hope that relations with the Department will be calm. In recent days, Georges Méric has been part of his questions about the third metro line while the Department is invited to all information meetings. There is even one today, that’s good. I hope Georges Méric will come to get all the answers he wants. The Department is a financial partner of this third line, so it has the right to all information on this file.
