How to facilitate transport in the Hloubětín area? Prague will deepen major arteries Prague 9 | From the region Pražská Drbna
The capital of the Czech Republic is dealing with congestion in the Hloubětín area, more precisely on major roads in Průmyslová and Kbelská streets. Prague plans to deepen parts of these streets, which should help traffic not only in Prague 9.
Up to 85,000 cars a day
Prague has come up with a new study, which envisages the deepening of part of the streets in the Hloubětín area and the so-called industrial semicircle. This solution should facilitate traffic in these busy places, where up to 85,000 cars pass daily. Modifications to the roads should be completed by 2028 and Prague should cost about 6 billion crowns. The aim of the overall reconstruction is to increase the fluidity and safety of all traffic participants, ie cars or public transport as well as pedestrians and cyclists.
“Průmyslová and Kbelská Streets, which form the Industrial Semi-Circuit, are currently performing the function of missing circuits. We need to increase its capacity, because that is what will significantly help the flow of traffic in the eastern part of the city this decade. Removal of the column using the flow of traffic. Thanks to the modification of the crossroads and the new Hloubětín tunnel, we will increase the capacity of the narrow neck of the Industrial Semicircle by up to half. At the same time, new tree lines and better connections for pedestrians and cyclists will be created on the surface, ” said the Deputy Mayor of the Capital City of Prague for Transport Adam Scheinherr (Prague itself).
The deepening of the streets of Prague is planned so that drivers do not have to wait in columns at intersections and travel the entire route without stopping. “When preparing the project, we emphasized that the chosen solutions connect the city, not divide it. Therefore, the proposal is based on sensitive solutions of the 21st century, and not on large level crossings. “ added the deputy mayor Petr Hlaváček (TOP 09).

The first construction work should start this year. First, traffic lights and interchange lanes should be modified, then the city would rush to build two pedestrian underpasses under the railway line along Kbelská Street. Furthermore, Prague envisages the modification of the intersections in Průmyslová Street, the reconstruction of the bridge overpasses over the Rokytka Valley, and later a tunnel between Poděbradská and Kolbenova Streets and the reconstruction of Kbelská Street. If everything goes as it should, the work should end in 2028.
