Intelligence agencies in Russia and China systematically check confidential information from employees of Dutch technology companies through LinkedIn valuation. About this dutch Financieele Dagblad (FD) wrote on Monday, February 7, with reference to the leadership of the General Intelligence and Security Service of the Kingdom of the AIVD.
According to her, scouts for fake accounts and coverage of Dutch firms are following similar fields, consultants or recruiters. After discovering a trust relationship, the spies resort to blackmail or bribery, used by the FD.
Intelligence agencies cover countries, including the Netherlands, “shocked” by the successful rates of such conflicts, as a result of which confidential information was taken, cases of publication were noted. In the coming days, AIVD will send a message on social media to warn Dutch firms and officials of the dangers.
Takeovers, cyberattacks and classic espionage
China and Russia have been receiving advanced technologies from Western countries for years, including through the use of company takeovers, cyberattacks and classic espionage, the noted publication. The AIVD has already warned that such activities undermine the Netherlands’ emissions.
Another 300 million euros for the Dutch security service
The intelligence agency has already told Parliament that it wants more freedom, as well as a free-spirited commercial company and “the solvency of the Netherlands”, specifically the FD. According to the cabinet meeting, the coalition agreement includes an additional 300 million euros for the activities of the security service, but there are plans to match these funds.
Meanwhile, in Germany, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution announced at the end of 2017 that it suspects hackers from China in the LinkedIn team for cyber espionage, including for detention in the ministry and department.
