Sunny spells will alternate with cloudy periods on Monday, giving rise to showers, especially in the eastern half of the country, of a winter nature on the heights of the Ardennes with snowfall, with an accumulation of several cm in the Hautes Fagnes, or melting snow. At lower elevations, showers will be in the form of rain or occasional sleet.

On the west of the country, the weather will be drier, however, according to the discounts of the Royal Meteorological Institute. The maxima will be between 0 or 1 degree on the peaks of the Ardennes and 6 or 7 degrees in the plain. The wind will be fairly strong to strong in the interior. At the coast, it will be strong to very strong. The gusts will be around 75 or 80 km / h, or even a little more locally.

Several warnings

The displacement of storm Malik from the British Isles to the Alps, via the North Sea, therefore has consequences for our country since the wind will be present. All of Belgium is also on yellow wind alert from 4:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. this evening.

The province of Liège should also be affected by heavy rainfall. Indeed, the IRM forecasts abundant precipitations on the relief of the province of Liège with accumulations in 24 hours being able to exceed 25 liters/m², and very locally reaching up to 40 or even 50 liters/m² (maximum values provided by the most pessimistic projection). Part of this precipitation falling as snow. The yellow rain warning will be active until tomorrow Tuesday 4:00 am.

You will also have to pay attention in slippery conditions in Liège but also in the province of Luxembourg. From this morning until the end of the evening, the IRM predicts winter precipitation on the heights of the Ardennes. Above 500-600 m, it will often be snow that can lead to accumulations over 24 hours of 5 to 10 cm, even up to about 15 cm in Hautes-Fagnes.

In the north of the country, it is a high tide alert which was transmitted until 9 p.m. tonight. The Flemish Agency for Maritime and Coastal Services (MDK) and the waterways of Flanders are issuing a “(high) storm surge” warning for the coast and the Sea Scheldt on Monday afternoon.

The IRM predicts a high water level due to a storm (northwesterly winds) on the North Sea, which may lead to temporary flooding of the booms, especially in combination with the waves. Walks on the booms, quays or dykes are not without danger and you must therefore remain vigilant!

The 1722 activated

The number 1722 has been temporarily activated following this yellow alert from the Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM) for wind and heavy rain.

Wind gusts up to 85 km / h, or even more locally are expected on Monday. These could be accompanied by abundant precipitation with accumulations in 24 hours that can exceed 25 litres/m2 and very locally up to 40 or even 50 litres/m2.

In the event of damage caused by a storm or water damage requiring the intervention of the fire brigade, it is therefore possible to submit a request via the electronic counter or via the number 1722.

The administration recommends preferably using the 1722.be electronic counter. The call number is also available but a waiting time is to be expected before having an operator on line.

112 is reserved for situations in which a life is in danger.
