However, due to the pandemic, the Japanese Foreign Ministry last year announced the postponement of the opening ceremony in 2020. In this regard, as reported by the Kyodo agency, in November 2021 Moscow and Tokyo agreed to extend the Year of Russian-Japanese interregional and sister city exchanges for a year.
