World Rugby Sevens Series – Belgium beaten by Australia and France in Seville
(Belga) Belgium completed the 4th leg of the World Rugby Sevens Series with defeats to Australia and France on Friday in Seville, Spain.
The BelSevens are initially tilted 38-0 against Australia, 1st nation in the world. Against France, 2nd in the world rankings and Olympic vice-champion, the Belgians left the field with a score of 45-0. Belgium will play their third pool match on Saturday afternoon against Spain. The World Rugby Sevens Series, a prestigious international rugby sevens circuit, is an annual competition organized by the international federation, World Rugby. It brings together the world’s 12 best nations in rugby sevens, an Olympic sport Belgium has been invited to play in the Malaga and Sevilla legs of the World Rugby Sevens Series following New Zealand’s withdrawal due to the coronavirus pandemic coronavirus. Last week, the BelSevens took 10th place, out of 11, in the Malaga tournament. After defeats against Australia (40-5), Spain (26-19) and Ireland (29-12) in the group stage, the team of Romain Huet and Emiel Vermote beat Brazil 12 -17 in extra time in their first classification game, signing the first victory for a Belgian team on the main world rugby 7s circuit.
