What to see in Siena, a journey through time among the 5 main attractions

Probably what makes Siena fascinating is that it has remained intact as in medieval times. So visiting the city means traveling through time, in a golden age. So what are the main attractions not to be missed if you stop in the Tuscan city?

  1. Piazza del Campo, considered one of the most beautiful squares in the world for the characteristic shape of a 9-wedge shell. In 1300 it was the center where the market took place or where the Sienese gathered during festivals, such as the Palio. Today it is the tourist spot par excellence, between the facades of the noble palaces, the Torre del Mangia and the Fonte Gaia, the most beautiful of the Sienese water sources.
  2. The Torre del Mangia88 meters high, from which you can admire all of Siena (but only after having faced the effort of climbing 400 steps!)
  3. The domewith the characteristic black and white facade and a breathtaking interior: from the floor full of religious and esoteric symbols to the frescoes, from the Piccolomini Chapel by Michelangelo to the Pulpit by Nicola Pisano with biblical scenes and the Life of Jesus.
  4. The Siena Baptistery, where illustrious and non-illustrious personalities have been baptized. The baptismal font is made of marble and bronze.
  5. The picture gallerywhich contains the major works of the Sienese 400-500.

And finally, between a stroll and the other, one cannot be missing gastronomic stage to taste some of the local delicacies, such as ribollita, crostini or pappardelle with pappardelle, panforte, the famous cantucci and enjoy a good glass of Chianti, Montepulciano and Vin Santo!
