Toulouse: faced with the risk of its patients running away, the Marchant hospital closes its pavilions
The management of the Marchant psychiatric hospital in Toulouse decided this Friday to close its pavilions after the runaway of two dangerous patients last weekend, and that of an unbalanced person this Thursday from the CHU Purpan.
“Given the risks of new patient escapes in a context of overmediatization”, they explain in a press release, the management and the presidency of the establishment medical commission (CME) of the Gérard-Marchant hospital center have decided to close as soon as possible. 6:30 p.m., this Friday, January 28, the patient care pavilions throughout the weekend.
“This decision will be re-evaluated according to the evolution of the situation” specifies the hospital.
The management and the presidency of the establishment medical commission (CME) define “that the conditions of care for patients adapted to their clinical conditions and respecting their rights must be preserved”.
Two Runaways from Marchant
Wednesday, January 19, Jérémy Rimbaud, nicknamed “the cannibal of the Pyrenees”, had taken advantage of his few hours of freedom to violently attack a resident, in the city center of Toulouse, before being arrested by the Bac. This former soldier had been declared criminally irresponsible after acts of cannibalism on a nonagenarian in 2013.
As for the second patient, his runaway lasted less. Left Sunday, January 23 at the end of the afternoon, this 48-year-old man, finished in 2010 in a case of attempted sexual throat of a homo, was brought back by the police officers from Bac, four hours later. He was drunk. The next day, after a brief episode of decompensation, he smashed the furniture in his room. These two patients are being treated for schizophrenic disorders.
Jérémy Rimbaud should join the unit for difficult patients (UMD), of Albi. Following these two cases, the general management of the ARS announces that it is carrying out “an on-site inspection mission to ensure the compliance of the care of these patients”.
Finally, another dangerous patient escaped from the psychiatric unit of the CHU Purpan, this Thursday in Toulouse. Abdallah B. was arrested without violence in the afternoon, in the center of the Pink City, in the Carmes district. The Toulouse University Hospital specifies that the patient then returned to the closed unit of the hospital.
