The city of Hanover should agree on clear rules for e-scooters
Electric rental scooters parked carelessly on footpaths and cycle paths are not only a nuisance, but also a dangerous obstacle – especially for visually impaired people. So far, little has been done to curb the wild growth. Now the pressure from Council politics is growing. The FDP dares to submit its own application and demands that the city of Hanover sit down at a table with e-scooter providers and make clear agreements. “Since the approval of e-scooters in June 2019, the city has failed to agree on a systematic and continuously updated set of rules for the operation of e-scooters with company rental companies,” criticizes FDP councilor Ulla.
Set up taboo zones and parking spaces at Üstra stops
The Liberals propose that the city and rental scooter providers agree that certain places with the scooters may not be driven, such as pedestrian zones. Taboo zones should also be agreed for parking vehicles. In addition, there should be parking zones for the scooters near Üstra stops, so that the vehicles can actually be used for the “last mile” to the destination. With their proposals, the Liberals have already followed a guideline that the municipal umbrella organizations developed in August 2019 with rental scooter providers.
