You can be one of the smallest sovereign states in the world and have your Formula 1 Grand Prix, your football team, your tennis Masters, your television festival… and your radio.
Radio Monaco, as its name suggests, is the station that talks about Monaco, from Monaco, for Monegasques but not only.
Its antenna director, Benjamin Ducongé, proposes to dissect the DNA of the station.
Who is Radio Monaco for?
To Monegasques but more generally to the Monegasque living area. That is to say those who live there but also those who work there. We try to stick to everything that represents the Rock, namely the main family, the citizens, the residents, the workers.
What is your editorial line?
Proximity. We are very attentive to our broadcast area but we are mainly interested in what is happening on the princely territory. We always open our antenna with Monegasque news and everything that may be a marker of the Principality is integrated into our choices. So, for example, we are going to Canneseries because we have a major TV series festival on the Rock. We are on a news item in the service of Monaco, so we are trying to find the little anecdote related to Monaco. Every morning, we open the antenna with the Monegasque anthem, it is a strong marker.
How to break down your grid?
Between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., on a Morning made in Monaco, with news news every thirty minutes with traffic news, information on SNCF traffic, but also on finance because it is a major subject of the Rock. Between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m., we’re on a slice feel good by Giulia Testaverde where we will approach the different animated ways to feel good in the broad sense. Between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., we are onafter work, with a smiling, relaxed tone, guests and everything related to the cultural, charitable or sporting life of the Principality. And, from 7 p.m., there is music, with resident DJs and a qualitative night program. Between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m., we also have a great musical program, innovative, pop, colorful.
How do you calculate your audience?
There is no mediametry in Monaco but we know, via our mobile applications and our website, that we are listened to in a hundred countries around the world. The Radio Monaco brand is very strong. On the music, for example, we placed ourselves in an ambitious way, we didn’t want to be a music tap.
How do you manage to address a population as diverse as that of Monaco?
It’s a permanent headache. You have to have an eye for detail because on our own government but also deals with French news naturally, it is a city state with all that that entails. It’s a hybrid radio, which broadcasts music, news, sports. We are interested in everything while being located in the most important economic center of the region. We talk to the girl who is self-employed in Menton but also to the millionaire who has made a success of her life, there is a real Monegasque community in the broad sense, to which we must address ourselves. The diaspora is such that we have created a web-radio in New York which concerns all French speakers in this area from an idea that the consul general of Monaco in New York had after the first confinement.
Radio Monaco. 98.2 FM in Monaco, 95.4 between the Italian border and Saint-Tropez, 103.2 in Cannes-Grasse. The radio is also available on the Internet and via the mobile application.
