Under the supervision of assistant Martin Straka, who joined the team today, seven players trained at the O2 arena who did not have time to meet the cover rules for the trip to China by Thursday.
“I only arrived today, so I was waiting for who would be here. So there weren’t many of us, so we tried to focus on individual things in the band and a little fitness. The same program will continue before other guys get involved,” said Straka. in an online interview with journalists. “One part is already there and we will see how we manage it. I hope we will fly on time as we have,” he added.
Seven players flew to Beijing on Thursday evening, in Prague goalkeepers Šimon Hrubec, Roman Will and Patrik Bartošák, defender Vojtěch Mozík, forwards Lukáš Sedlák, Michael Špaček and traveling substitute David Tomášek are still preparing. “Other players from Sweden, Finland and Switzerland should join over the weekend,” Straka said.
The Olympic winner from Nagano, like most players in recent days, had problems with the coronavirus, due to a positive test he could not join the national team sooner. “I’ve been home for seven days since last week. But I was fine, I was just a little tired. Coughing, but no temperature. I wasn’t serious,” Straka said.
The Czech team will try to correct the impression in Beijing of the embarrassing course of the season, in which the national team did not win a single match. “I personally and I think everyone here wants a medal. We know we need to improve, it wasn’t that yet. I hope we’re learning from that,” Straka said.
According to him, a lot of things have to change. “We have to be more team-minded, we have to put more fighting spirit into the game and go to the places where goals are scored. Around the goalkeeper so he doesn’t see. I hope we will improve it, “said the 2005 world champion.
