Norway has received approval for warnings to pregnant women on snuff boxes – Vårt Land
– I am glad that Norway has gained support for the need to inform young women about the health risks of snus use during pregnancy, says Minister of Health and Care Services Ingvild Kjerkol (Labor Party).
– We have had a negative development with many young women starting with snus, and several of these are unable to stop when they become pregnant. It is important that they are told that snus use during pregnancy can increase the risk of birth defects and stillbirth, she says.
The Tobacco Directive entered into force in the EU in 2016, but its incorporation into the EEA Agreement has been delayed for various reasons. According to the plan, this will take place on 4 February.
The directive regulates, among other things, which health warnings should be on the tobacco packages, and how e-cigarettes should be designed and sold. The incorporation requires the consent of the Storting.
