Before arriving in theaters, “355” was already a film against the current because the protagonists are the owners of the film; it was they who were financed and then financed at the Cannes Film Festival018 On the other hand, there are only women in the main roles, which is still far from being normal in the spy stories that are told in cinema.
At the beginning of the female spy thriller was Jessica Chastain, who not only launched the idea, but the rest of the cast also decided on the shooting locations, from Washington to Morocco, via London, Paris and Morocco. In case you have any doubts, here’s the representation yet (one more) of an actress that doesn’t stop there.

In front of the camera, Chastain has shown that she enjoys varying genres and working with very different directors, but as a producer she is increasingly committed to helping make films and series. It’s no wonder, however, that as co-stars of “355” Lupita Nyong’o and Diane Kruger speak of her with that.

To CNN Portugal, Jessica Chastain says that “no one is unstoppable”. But, looking at what he has done and he has already announced that he will do it, unstoppable is one of the adjectives that will best suit him at 44 years old.
“355” is a refreshing take on women in the world of espionage. What enchanted you most about this project?
Jessica Chastain, the charm, but it had so many aspects to an artists idea: the artists at work. The actresses own the film. We finance it through overseas sales in Cannes and, in that sense, we sell the distribution rights, but we own the film. This is shocking in an industry that has devalued women for so long that it has women who are bosses.
The group of protagonists shows a lot of chemistry on screen. How close were you to Diane Kruger, Penelope Cruz or Lupita Nyong’o before this film?
All of them are women I wanted to work with and already adored. He’d met them before at events. He already knew that they were very nice and that they liked being them. I was on the Cannes Film Festival jury with a Bingbing fan, that’s where I met… And of course I was already a big fan of their work and that is unparalleled because it’s not at the top of what our industry produces. So it was a dream not only to launch an idea and think about the film and the way to create it, but also to choose the cast and shooting locations… All this had an experience in shooting never before.

How do you choose your roles? But already trying to make dramas, science fiction, horror, thrillers…
I think there’s a bit of rebelliousness there… Growing up in this industry, note that actresses in particular have a little rebelliousness in a unique genre. I didn’t mix, but I wanted to work on everything. That’s why right after “Tree of Life” (2011), I made a horror movie (“Mama”, 2013). I wanted to change the public and the industry about what they could do to me.
Despite the pandemic, 2021 was an exceptional year for you. Is unstoppable a good word to describe her at this stage of her career?
Unstoppable… I wouldn’t call it that, because we also have the notion that we are and that we have a lot of strength than the man who can stop one of us. Nobody is unstoppable, but I feel very fortunate with what is going on in my career right now…. It’s a strange thing… After the year and a half it’s been, having these projects come out to…. I’m so grateful for the opportunity, because we’re so grateful for the opportunity where people really need to escape the crisis and here they are to help get rid of the worry for all that we’ve been through during the pandemic. So having these projects coming out now, I’m happy to be able to provide that to someone.
