In a fabulous NASA photo, part of the beauty of Europe, including Lithuania: find your city
According to NASA, because part of Europe was captured when it was dark at the time of day, the boundaries of the cities were bright due to the bright lights, and with it the Baltic Sea. In addition, the photo shows only the illuminated cities, but also the Northern Lights and the clear boundary of the Earth’s atmosphere – like a contour
At the bottom of the photo – the brightest Berlin (Germany), Copenhagen (Denmark), Gothenburg (Sweden) Oslo (Norway). At the very center is the Baltic Sea, which separates the Scandinavian countries of Sweden and Finland from the Baltic countries of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Lithuanian cities – Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda – can be seen quite clearly.
Also seen in Krasnodar (Russia), Warsaw, Gdansk (Poland). Tallinn (Estonia), Riga (Latvia), Helsinki (Finland), Stockholm (Sweden) and St. Petersburg (Russia) are also in the distance.
Northern Europe from the International Space Station. NASA / Weather and Climate in Lithuania photo.
According to NASA, the shot was captured from a height of 410 km above the Earth.
The Facebook page “Weather and Climate in Lithuania”, which monitors atmospheric phenomena, commented on this photo observed by NASA.
“On a planetary scale, Europe is very small and we (Europeans) are much closer to each other than we may seem.
This image of Northern Europe may seem very strange, but it is only because we are too accustomed to traditional (straightened) maps that everything is beautiful to see. In reality, the view from ~ 410 km altitude looks different. It looks even stranger when you try to look at city lights in the distance.
The photo was taken on January 17th. Then the full moon shone, making the Earth look so bright. In the distance you can still see the Northern Lights. In order to reduce the number of disputes over whose lights, we have also listed some cities “, writes the group” Weather and Climate in Lithuania “.
