1st Slavic grammar school: Prague 1 does not extend his lease
The school, which bears the name 1. Slovanské gymnázium, is located in Masná Street in a building it has rented from the city district. Director Tatiana Pergler told the council that she had tried to arrange a meeting with the town hall and address the possibility of extending the extension. Last December, she reportedly learned that the lease should be terminated prematurely. “It was astonishing for us that during this time the name of our active school was damaged by incorrect and untrue information from public officials whocites xenophobic arguments as an excuse to terminate the lease,She said during the interpellation. The school should end the lease in 2023.
Several things already mentioned in the explanatory memorandum bother you to the resolution of the council of December last year, which requires the mayor Petr Hejm (STAN) to negotiate with the school in order to ensure capacity for the needs of the Curie family primary school. It states, for example, that the 1st Slavic Grammar School was established to provide education mainly to students from Russian-speaking countries, who in 2015 created 94% of the school’s pupils.
It states, for example, that the 1st Slavonic Grammar School was established to provide education mainly to students from Russian-speaking countries, who in 2015 created 94% of the school’s pupils. According to the principal, the school was founded as a Czech high school with an international character for all nationalities and races without distinction. In December 2021, 69% of children with Czech citizenship studied there, 5% of students had EU citizenship and 26% of students came from third countries. In total, more than 240 students study here. According to her, children with a different mother tongue also study at a number of primary schools in Prague 1, and some also continue to her grammar school.
We are not a pro-Russian grammar school
She also pointed out that the school had invested more than 4 million crowns in the building in the reconstruction of the building, which it took over in a state of disrepair. The director believes that the town hall’s procedure violates the principle of good morals. “Just because I’m from Eastern Europe doesn’t mean this high school is pro-Russian.” she also added and asked the city district to cancel the decision not to extend the city district.
The mayor replied that the principal had informed that the primary school would need to expand its capacity. “I can’t agree not to communicate with you,He said. According to the mayor, he was also not instructed to terminate the lease early. The contract also cannot be extended due to the fact that the primary school needs premises and it will be necessary to place 1st grade pupils somewhere. “These are children from Prague 1. We are obliged by law to accept every child who is registered in the catchment area,” he added.
The mayor also stated that Prague 1 respects every school in its territory. The town hall also stated that the 324 primary school pupils who go to the school group have only 2 playrooms and otherwise have to spend time in the group in regular classes. “How would the parents of the children pretend not to allow them to use the district building we rent to a private entity?” he noted.
Criticism from the opposition
Opposition representatives from the Pirates and former Education Councilor Karolina Polverini (TOP 09) also stood up for the school. “I see no reason why there could be no further extension of the lease with the 1st Slavonic Grammar School and I see no reason for the elementary school to us. The Curies demanded the expansion of the premises for their 1st degree, “said the former councilor. According to her, Prague 1 is not obliged to provide a place in schools for children who do not have a permanent residence in Prague 1.
Opposition councilor David Bodeček (Pirates) wanted to discuss the matter at the council, but did not get on the agenda. He himself is also convinced that the town hall has not yet provided relevant arguments as to why the school did not extend the lease. “If reliable data are available, the elementary school will tell us. The Curies need to expand their background, then this will be a relevant reason to act. Nothing like this can be read from the minutes of the school board and from the inspection report of the relevant school, “he said.
According to the mayor, the position representative David Bodeček (Pirates) only stirred up the whole thing and the council is ready to look for another solution and no one is prematurely expelling the school from us. He also pointed out that he appreciated how well the school was working.
