Toulouse: all about the LGBTQI+ film festival
President and programmer of the 15th edition of the LGBTQI+ film festival, Anne-Catherine Mezure tells us about this rich international program present in Toulouse from January 28 to February 6. Interview.
What is the genesis of this festival?
The LGBTQI+ film festival was created in 2007 by Laure and Jacques. It is supported by the Diam association (Des Images aux Mots). This 15th edition* makes it possible to discover works from all over the world, often unpublished, to experience moments together around the 7th art. Especially after a year of absence.
What is son but?
Make known and attract the public around three categories of works: films, short films and documentaries, judged by a jury and the public on February 6 at the Kalinka cabaret in Toulouse during the closing evening.
How are you approaching this festival in 2022?
In 2007, this type of cinema often remained caricatural. Today, society has evolved. We will give rarer works, not in the commercial circuit. A cinema that shows international diversity and talks about everyone: queers and also young feminists in an inclusive, intergenerational and intersectional approach. In Toulouse, the Cinespaña or Cinélatino festivals successfully address the LGBT theme with award-winning films. On the other hand, our festival struggles to attract straight audiences. You have to break the taboos. This festival is for everyone. This is the key to living together.
For the first time, a screening is intended for children…
Five short films (February 2, Espace Bonnefoy) are offered to them to talk about difference, whatever it may be. A project born with the association of gay and lesbian parents and future parents (APGL) in partnership with Vidéophages. A way to come as a family.
A few favourites?
Within the framework of feminism, several documentaries are presented including “Factory of consent” or “Our bodies are your battlefields”, a testimony of women in Argentina and their journey of combat. Thursday February 3 at 8:30 p.m. at the Cosmograph cinema in Toulouse, in the presence of the director, Isabelle Solas. We can also mention ten animated films for young audiences on different themes, including: “Les Garçons Bleus” or 12 portraits to better define virility and masculinity. Saturday January 29 at 9:45 p.m. at the ABC cinema in Toulouse.
