The Wastewater Treatment Plant increases its capacity to better preserve the Mediterranean
Prince Albert II visited the new facilities at the wastewater treatment plant.
The commitment to the Mediterranean continues. Thanks to the work initiated in 2018, the Waste Water Treatment Plant (UTER), located underground, under the Le Triton building, has increased its capacity by 30%, thanks to almost doubling the surface area with the support from SMEaux.
Céline Caron-Dagioni, Government Counselor – Minister of Equipment, Environment and Urban Planning, spoke to Monaco Info: “ Today, our rejections are 99% processed, which is still huge! We have rates that are 40% above European standards. We are in line with the impulse, the will of the Sovereign to prevent our future, to anticipate, to acquire the necessary means to be able to control our impact on the environment. »
This plant, which has been in service since 1990, is the first wastewater treatment plant in the world to be built underground, which prevents any nuisance (noise or odours). It treats wastewater from the Principality, but also that from Beausoleil and part of La Turbie and Cap d’Ail, which is then discharged 800 meters off the coast of Monaco and 100 meters deep.
According to the press release from the Prince’s Government, Prince Albert II ” rejoiced that Monaco is demonstrating an ever-increasing requirement for the protection of its resources and biodiversity. »
