“The trees felled in an extremely degenerate phytopathological situation”
After a careful inspection it is certified that the plants that make up the tree-lined road “are in an extremely degenerated phytopathology situation”. With these words comes the state of the trees located in via Don Minzoni in Cattolica, in the stretch that goes from the steps of the port to via Verdi. To write is the Agronomist Gabriele Dall’Olio in the report made on behalf of the Coop. 134. “In the vast majority – continues Dall’Olio – the species present, almost all American Maples (Acer negundo) and a small part of Tamerici (Tamarix gallica), have large cavities and accentuated inclinations, which seriously preclude their stability”. The clarification of the Municipal Administration was made necessary after the announcement last Monday of the works that interested through Don Minzoni and the following triggered need for cutting down on social media and reported by the press, the need to cut down trees. There is talk of about thirty plants reaching the end of their life cycle. The trees will, however, be replaced with an alternation of specimens of “pyrus calleryana” (green leaf) and “cremson king” maple (red leaf). The choice was made taking inspiration from the identical trees already present in the same via Don Minzoni upstream from via Verdi. “The intervention was already foreseen before ours – adds the Councilor for Public Works Enrico Ugolini – and the current Administration has asked for a further verification of the state of affairs of the trees, which was later confirmed by the report of the Cooperative 134. A necessary and which is characterized by the safety of the city artery in relation to the road surface and the phytosanitary situation but above all to the safety of citizens and tourists, considered the highly frequented area during the summer period “. The deterioration presented by the plants is due to the poor compartmentalization capacity of the wounds that these species may be and which have created the clearly visible and irreversible damage. “With this intervention – continues the Mayor Franca Foronchi – the opportunity was taken to go and intervene on the improvement of the pavements”. As of next week, asphalting and pavement repair works will start under a framework agreement. This intervention will be completed by the month of February. The redevelopment will be completed by the new plantings that will take place in spring, the most suitable period for this operation. “We understand – concludes the Mayor – that the felling of trees always arouses concern but also plants have their own life cycle and that is why it is necessary to intervene, guaranteeing it, in any case, complete it”.
