Students in Geneva and Vaud no longer have to wear masks

The cantons of Geneva and Vaud in western Switzerland are raising the requirement to wear masks in schools. In Vaud, primary school students will no longer have to wear protective masks from next Monday. In Geneva, the mask requirement for pupils in primary and orientation levels ends on February 21 after the sports holidays.
On the same date, secondary school students in the canton of Vaud will also be able to refrain from wearing a mask. Wearing a mask is still mandatory for teachers and all adults who work in or attend school.
Omikron allow “gradual de-escalation process”
The latest findings about the danger of the omicron variant and the development of the pandemic situation allowed “a gradual de-escalation process,” said Vaud Education Director Cesla Amarelle (SP) on Thursday in front of the media.
School camps are allowed again in the canton of Vaud from February 7th. A self-assessment must be completed before and after the camp, which is provided by the school. Around 550 classes were affected from the beginning of February to the end of March.
Swimming lessons are also allowed again from February 7th. Only performances in schools are still prohibited. The targeted tests will be held in all Vaud schools by February 28th.
The canton of Geneva allows school camps with overnight stays in Switzerland from February 21, as the education department further announced in a communiqué. After the sports holidays, the canton of Geneva is also lifting the recommendations for routine and self-tests in schools and kindergartens.
