On a day of a technical tie, it’s best to play at home
António Costa started the day in Loures, Chamber for which he ran in 1993, and ends the day with a rally in Lisbon, the city he presided over until he left for São Bento. Rui Rio chose no different tactics and bet everything at home: the social-democrat campaign was in Porto.
In the traditional street in Santa Catarina, the flood was the biggest Rio remembers, there is no lack of social democratic barons at the side of the leader and the tone was one of victory. In between, the Liberal Initiative appeared – who starts the day at Sá Carneiro Airport talking about TAP – forced through the orange crowd that filled the street. And Salvador Malheiro went to meet Cotrim Figueiredo. Sign of a meeting that you hope to repeat on the 31st? For now, Rui Rio’s strong man limited himself to separating the waters: “We are going to open the gang here for you to go through the middle”.
Later? You will see, but the Expresso/SIC poll already shows that all votes will count. Maybe that’s why, yesterday David Justino, vice president of the PSD, raised the hypothesis of a “gentlemen’s agreement” between PS and PSD while refusing to draw red lines around Chega.
If in the fight for the Government we have a technical tie, the fight for third place couldn’t be more close either. For that championship, with Jerónimo de Sousa back in campaign, in the CDU the appeal was not to let the PS “fall into the arms of the right”. On the Block side, on Ana Drago’s visit, Catarina Martins appealed for a useful vote, remembering that “every BE deputy who enters is one of Chega who does not enter”. In its turn, Ventura went to Sines, to the “country on the forgotten list”, listen to its head of the list, Bruno Nunes, who defends his entry into the next Government.
Further back in the polls, tied in the fight for the election of a deputy, CDS and Livre elect to talk about security. Francisco Rodrigues Santos defended that “all Portuguese who believe that Costa should cast a safe and useful vote in these elections, belong to the votes cast in the CDS”. In turn, in Lisbon, Rui Tavares highlighted the “enormous crossroads” and “very serious political crisis” in which the right will fall if I learn as discoveries.
