Liliana Segre is an official honorary citizen of San Marino
Senator Liliana Segre received the diploma that formally sanctions her honorary citizenship in San Marino.
The woman, a veteran of the Holocaust, sent a message of greeting to the Regency and the Great and General Council for the conferral of the honorary citizenship of San Marino and her message was read today at the Palazzo during the Audience of the Exc. ‘Ambassador of Israel SE Dror Eydar.
“The message of Senator Segre – writes the Secretariat of State for the Interior – on the Day of Remembrance, amplifies the importance of this historic passage for our Republic, strongly desired by the citizens who presented, in April 2021, a specific Application for ‘Arengo. Then followed a double passage in the Great and General Council: the first in July for the approval of the application, the second in October for the conferral of honorary citizenship. There official delivery of the diploma took place in the middle of Januaryby the Ambassador of San Marino in Rome, considering the impossibility, manifested by Senator Segre, to travel to the Republic.
We are therefore proud – declares the Secretary Elena Tonnini – to welcome in our community, on such an emblematic day, Senator Liliana Segre, who spent her life fighting against racism, anti-Semitism, intolerance, incitement to hatred and violence and in favor of of interreligious and intercultural dialogue “.
