Justice – Hanover – Minister: Better fight clan crime with a network – Panorama
Hanover (dpa / lni) – With closer cooperation between authorities, clan crime in Lower Saxony should be better combated. “We pay particular attention to the increased cooperation between the public prosecutor’s office and the police with other authorities, especially those on site,” said Minister of Justice Barbara Havliza (CDU) on Thursday in the state parliament.
With the 2022/23 budget, two new positions would be assigned to the Osnabrück public prosecutor’s office to support the cross-agency “Clan security partnership”. “The aim of this network is to combat known clan crime through the exchange of knowledge and coordination and thus joint action by the authorities involved in the subject. That should be a key in action against this form of crime,” emphasized the minister.
In 2020, 1951 cases were assigned to clan crime in Lower Saxony. Above all, it is about acts of violence, theft, fraud and drug-related offences. 1886 people were recorded as suspects or accused. Of these, 85 percent were men and 40 percent were younger than 25 years old. Almost 40 percent of the suspects in this area were foreigners – the main countries of origin were Turkey, Syria and Lebanon.
