Why Isabelle and Patrick Balkany could have spent Christmas in prison
March 2021, the Balkanys are serving three years in prison for tax evasion from their home in Giverny (Eure), each with an ankle bracelet and permission to leave from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The bracelets rang a hundred times
Isabelle and Patrick Balkany had many shortcomings according to the prosecutor. They rang their electronic bracelet a hundred times and allegedly behaved “inappropriately” towards their sentence enforcement judge, again according to Marianne.
Their electronic bracelet may ring either because they are outside, or before or after the authorized time, or because they have left the perimeter defined for their “house arrest”. This being peripheral to their home, the bracelets of the Balkany couple beeped many times.
Postman, dogs and hot baths
To explain these many discrepancies, the Balkanys mentioned the need to go to the gate of their property to open the postman, or to get their dogs out. Isabelle Balkany also explained that she had to take hot baths for her ankle, however the bracelet goes out after a certain period under water. Even when put on the wrist, it kept fading out.
To dismiss them the longest, the Balkany justified both found justifications. Patrick reported a breakdown on the highway and Isabelle demonstrated that she was stuck in traffic on her way home from shopping. Will these excuses be enough? Response on February 3.
