Chemin-bas d’Avignon: associative actors committed to the inhabitants
Updated on 01/27/2022
Thursday January 27, 2022, Chloé Demeulenaere, Deputy Secretary General, Deputy Prefect in charge of city policy in particular, accompanied by Yasmine Fontaine, Delegate of the Prefect for the Eastern districts of Nîmes went to meet two associations of the district of the Chemin-bas d’Avignon.
The visit began with the meeting of the members of the association Le Rocher who met in place with the inhabitants of the social, educational and cultural activities. Established in the neighborhood since 2018, the association is as close as possible to the needs of the inhabitants.
This association is led by a couple, but also by 3 young people in civic service (all living in the neighborhood in housing provided by a social landlord) and many volunteers. It offers its actions in the neighborhood, but also within the premises of the Saint Dominique church.
This association is financed by public funds up to 20% in particular by the State and for the remainder by private funds. This funding makes it possible to carry out actions intended to promote social cohesion (street work, adventurer, shared meal, various activities with young people and parents, etc.).
In addition, the association benefits from the Cooperation Fund for Youth and Popular Education (FONJEPYouth and Popular Education Cooperation Fund) which allows the remuneration of a qualified employee.
The deputy secretary general then went to the Association Union des Citoyens des Deux Rives (UCDR), one of the oldest in the Chemin Bas district of Avignon. Supported by the State and the department, the association promotes the principles and values of the Republic and offers workshops for learning the French language, hotlines for access to rights and support for schooling through tutoring.
This association works thanks to its volunteers, the dedication of its president (Moncef Garouri) and with the help of an adult relay. To complete its team, the association is looking for 3 people (in civic service or in the Skills Employment Course)
The visit ended with a moment of exchange with officials of the national police – contact police in front of the premises of the André Malraux social center. On this occasion, the Deputy Secretary General and the Prefect’s delegate underlined the commitment of the teams in this priority security zone.
