an appropriate petition for alternative waste management
The city of Marseilles undergoes its 3rd garbage collectors’ strike in four months and for a week the mountains of waste have been increasing. The dialogue seems closed between the Force Ouvrière union (the only one mobilized on this strike) and the Metropolis. But in the meantime it is still a desolate landscape that inhabits the city with the risk of an ecological and health disaster.
To put an end to this scourge and face the emergency, a dozen associations for the defense of the environment, including “1 waste per day” have decided to launch an online petition to ask for better waste management in Marseille. In an open letter addressed to the president of the Metropolis, they ask to act as quickly as possible for the environment.
Quietly, the conditions for an ecocide are being put back in place: piles of waste around the bins, scattered waste along the gutters – (excerpt from the letter addressed to Martine Vassal)
The authors ask for the organization of cleanliness meetings in order to put an end to these recurring ecological problems in Marseille. They want Marseille to be transformed “into the capital of transition”.
Let’s get out of this crisis to get up stronger. Let’s act so that Marseille becomes the capital of transition, starting with efficient and non-binding waste management.
The online petition received on January 21 has so far collected 3,471 signatures. It is available on the change.org platform.
