VIDEO. Handball: Fenix players in “Live my life” mode with Lidl workers, their sponsor near Toulouse
Five players from the Ville Rose handball club came to spend half a day with workers from the Lidl logistics platform in Baziège near Toulouse. Lidl, which has been a partner of the club since the start of the 2021 school year.
It’s an original way to honor a sponsor. This Wednesday, January 26 in the morning, five players from Fenix, Toulouse handball club in the first division, came to spend a morning at the Lidl logistics platform in Baziège, near Toulouse. A site where 2,000 people work, including 300 workers, to transport goods to more than 80 stores in the region. “We invited them so that they could have a good time with our staff: we support them in their sporting exploits on a daily basis and we wanted them to discover our varied and often little-known professions”, explains Ronan Bébin, regional director of Lidl.
The operation was organized as part of the company’s “Health and Safety at Work” week. As usual, the workers warmed up to prepare their bodies for carrying heavy loads. But for the occasion, it was the Fenix physical trainer himself who provided the exercise. Then, for two hours, players discovered the daily life of warehouse workers, in pairs with workers. Preparation of orders, moving the forklift, etc.
“Getting out of our bubble”
“I’m super happy to be here and to learn how their work is going”, assures Matthieu Marmier, right-back of Fenix, in tandem with David, in post at Lidl since 2019. “I’m rather footballer, but I I’m a bit handball, it’s both fun and exceptional to have them here”, abounds David. This particular half-day took place in the middle of a week of physical preparation for the Fenix, who will resume the championship on February 5 against Istres. “It also allows us to get out of our bubble at the Palais des Sports and reconnect with real life,” smiles Rémi Calvel, assistant sports coach. With plans, an operation in the other direction: workers from Lidl visiting high-level athletes from Fénix.
