The one-way sign in Zurich should no longer apply to bicycles
Free travel in both directions for Zurich cyclists: one-way lanes with a speed of 30 km/h should now basically be navigable in both directions for bicycles. The SVP fears that parking spaces will be reduced.
For the SP and the Greens, it would be “natural” that cyclists could also ride in the opposite direction in one-way lanes, at least when the speed limit was 30. In a postulate in the municipal council on Wednesday, she demands that the city council examine the neighborhood streets and make them “more permeable” for bicycles.
For the SVP, the advance was “a Trojan horse”. It is obvious what this initiative wants to achieve. “This is about another parking lot reduction,” said Derek Richter. In addition, it is about a “legalization of today’s conditions”. The one-way regime was ignored by the cyclists as so often.
Parliament passed the proposal to the city council with 78 votes to 32, among others. This war anyway ready to receive it. In a report he will now explain in which one-way streets bicycles could ride freely.
