About a third of Ukrainians do not follow the news related to the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
This was announced at a press conference by UNIAN Executive Director of the Ukrainian Institute of the Future Vadym Denenko, referring to the results of a poll “Are Ukrainians ready for a great war.”
During the survey, respondents were asked: “How much do you follow the news on the conflict between Ukraine and Russia?”.
The answer “almost no news on this topic” was answered by 7% of respondents, “several times a day” – 35%, “not more than once a day” – 31%, “not more than once a week” – 19%, “I do not follow at all” answered 8% of respondents.
“That is, we can say that 27% of Ukrainians, ie in fact a third of Ukrainians, de facto either do not follow or do not follow the news related to the conflict between Ukraine and Russia,” Denisenko concluded.

Also, third women – 33% – are not actually interested in topics related to possible Russian aggression; 18% of such men.
As Denisenko found out, people aged 45+ are much more active in this matter and people aged 18-27 are the least active.
The study found that 82% of respondents heard the news that Russia is increasing its forces on the border with Ukraine, another 15% – heard but did not know the details. 3% have not heard of it at all.
“73% of young people only” heard something “about the case… These young people are quite easy to relate to this issue and I believe that in fact nothing serious, in their view, is happening,” – added Denisenko.
Respondents were also asked to explain how they feel about the news that Russia is increasing its forces on the border with Ukraine. Answer options were offered.
Thus, 37% believe that the increase in the population of Russian troops near Ukraine’s borders is a bargain on the part of Russia for NATO to support Ukraine’s non-accession to the Alliance; 33% say that there is a real threat of Russian attack / introduction of Russian troops on the territory of Ukraine; that there is no threat, it is just an information policy on the part of Western partners, in particular the United States, in order to persuade Ukraine to implement the Minsk agreements, 5% said; that Russia is “rattling” weapons, there is no real threat, said another 5%; that there is no threat is the result of information policy on the part of the Ukrainian authorities and the media – 4% said. It was difficult to answer and there was no unequivocal opinion on this issue – 15%.
“That is, as of today at least 14% say that there is no threat and another 15% do not answer whether there is a threat or not. And that there will be direct military action, the rest of the population – 33% of Ukrainians “, – summed up Denisenko.
The survey was conducted from January 1 to 23, 2022. The online survey involved 1,200 respondents from different regions of Ukraine (except for cities in the temporarily uncontrolled territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, selected by the Autonomous Republic of Crimea).
