San Marino. “Day of Remembrance”, PSD: “May integration and cooperation between peoples be ever stronger”
“There Remembrance Day – nowadays – it takes on enormous significance, probably much greater than it has been in past years “.
This was stated by the Party of Socialists and Democrats, adding: “January 27, 2022 is a date on which we all must make that extra effort than in previous years and return with greater conviction to the tragic events that led to the creation of the death machineof the scientific system of deportation, of the invention of the extermination camps, of what the Nazis called ‘The final solution to the Jewish question’, which led to the elimination of about two thirds of the Jews of Europe, organized and brought to instrumental by Germany and carried out by an administrative, economic and military apparatus which involved a large part of the bureaucratic power structures of the regime. To tell the truth, the Holocaust is a much broader issue than the sad story of the Jewish people (the Holocaust), but it is a phenomenon that, since Hitler’s rise to power in 1933, historians estimate that it led to the assassination of at least 15 million people including political dissidents, homosexuals, belonging to ethnic minorities such as Roma and Sinti, people of color and people with disabilities. So why remember today? Because it is only through the memory that remaining open and fear wounds us to be vigilant that those atrocities do not happen again. Because there are still wars in the world; because – for example – the war in the Balkans of the 1990s brought out unspeakable horrors of crimes perpetuated on the civilian population, comparable only to the Nazi horrors of the Second World War; because the wars in Africa and the Middle East are no less and why – finally – the recent tensions in Eastern Europe tell us not to let our guard down.
The PSD intends – on this day – to underline with greater conviction the importance of remembrance, the importance that celebrating January 27 has today, because if on the one hand there is the risk that the tragedy of the Holocaust falls into the oblivion of history – and humanity cannot afford it – on the other hand there is the continuous advance of phenomena such as denial, conspiracy and historical revisionism (i.e. history for political purposes) which, facilitated by social networks, concretely risk making a breach in a confused community and perhaps no longer sensitive to the tragedy enacted by the regime pronounced on the tragedy from 1933 to 1945.
The task of politics and institutions today is to make the memory and history of those millions of innocent victims who are always alive and who horrible chambermaids, the images of the suppliers of gas people, of the bodices stacked and thrown in mass graves, are always an indelible reminder of what man, even relatively recently, has been able to do. Remembering the past, however, is not enough, the task of all of us (of politics in the first place) is to work hard to ensure that integration And cooperation between peoples may they be stronger and stronger: world peace is at stake.
The PSD therefore believes that January 27, 2022, must be celebrated all the more so, because in recent months there has been barbarism of such audacity that no one could ever have imagined. Photomontages of the infamous Aushwitz gate with the words “The vaccine makes you free” appeared on social networks all over the world, parades no vax of people wearing the striped clothes of the extermination camps, comments on social media, but also in print or on television, of people who compare the tools to combat the spread of the Corona Virus to the immense tragedy of the Holocaust, are instruments the shining example that we are taking a very dangerous drift and after 77 years from the liberation of the victims of the death machine who behave are the proof that we must never, never stop remembering ”.
