New ‘Antwerp Pearls’ performed on small stages in the city | Antwerp
AntwerpAntwerpse Pearls is a project of Local Cultural Policy and the Antwerp district in collaboration with Fameus. The project brings together new, metropolitan stage talent. The pearls play, write and perform on small stages in the city. The performances will be four new gems on different stages in Antwerp.
Younes Van den Broeck is one of the new Antwerp Pearls. Under the name PL3M0NS, he gives a hybrid, Afro-futuristic, multimedia performance in 3D style about a post-apocalyptic scenario around climate change. PL3M0NS is about the predatory role of plastic and other polluters. All masks, sets and costumes are made by Younes. The performance will take place on Friday March 11 at 8 pm in Schouwburg Luchtbal (Columbiastraat 8 – 2030 Antwerp), on Friday April 29 at 8 pm in coStA (Sint-Andriesplaats 24 – 2000 Antwerp) and on Thursday May 5 at 8.15 pm in Nova (Schijfstraat 105 – 2020 Antwerp).

A second Antwerp pearl is Sally Ghannoum, a Syrian artist, filmmaker and singer. Born in Aleppo, Sally came to Belgium five years ago when she was on the run with her family. Singer Sally and musician Mohamad Hussein take you on a journey to their native Syria and give you a taste of traditional Syrian music in the show Double Bill. This will take place on Wednesday 16 March at 6 pm in the Linkeroever Services Center (Louis Paul Boonstraat 21 – 2050 Antwerp).
With ‘The Own Legend’, Mike De Ridder gives a lecture performance for the searching soul who is willing to throw everything overboard. Mike takes you through his youth and young adulthood where the search for himself and the divine spark are central. He shares the discovery of a long-kept secret with the public. The show will take place on Thursday 24 March at 8.15 pm in Nova (Schijfstraat 105 – 2020 Antwerp), and on Friday 22 April at 8 pm in Sint-Anneke Centrum (Hanegraefstraat 5 – 2050 Antwerp).

Finally, there are Alex Akuete (Xray) and Nina Plantefève-Castryck with ‘The essence of life’, a search for the meaning of life. To what extent can we question dying, and express ourselves in a philosophy of life of an already existing structure? ‘The essence of life’ will take place on Thursday 2 June at 8.15 pm in Nova (Schijfstraat 105 – 2020 Antwerp).
