Campostano asks for more space in Genoa for the Forest terminal
The terminal operator Forest of Genoa Sampierdarena (Campostano Group) defines itself as “an excellent example of resilience” because “not only has it been able to recover after two powerful collisions – the warehouse fire in 2017 and the pandemic in 2020 – but it has shown that it knows how to return to excellent levels in record time “.
The quay on which it operates is in Ponte Somalia, that slice of port which in the future seems destined to host the nearby deposits of Superba and Carmagnani, relocating them from Multedo and for which Campistano had applied for a concession but was rejected by the port authority. Precisely for this reason, the Campostano group is now back to ask for spaces where they can work.
In 2021 Forest managed both to exceed the volumes of 2020 and 2019 but also to obtain the same results as in 2016, handling approximately 116,000 tons of goods, by ship and by containers.
The Culmv manpower start-ups exceeded the total of 1,000 “Schedule personnel, included in a special terminal” underlines the terminal. He then adds: “It is important to note that Forest guarantees the highest profitability per day worked in the port of Genoa and provides the highest contribution to Culmv’s overheads”.
The managing director Ettore Campostano said he was “very proud of these results which demonstrate commitment as the professionalism and commitment we have dedicated have been a fire in overcoming two enormous obstacles”.
The entrepreneur from Savona then added: “In addition to the refurbishment of the warehouse, we continued to invest with the aim of reducing the environmental impact (for example by starting a campaign to replace the trucks with new electric vehicles), to increase efficiency energy and to enhance the level of service offered. Naturally, like every link in the logistics chain, we are dealing with, and will continue to deal with, a highly complex scenario, both globally (the explosion in the cost of raw materials and their lack, the criticality in procurement and in general logistic process – aggravated by the persistence of the pandemic – the backfire of the infrastructure, and the vertical growth of infrastructure costs) and locally, with the start of the renewal programs of the Port of Genoa “.
The results obtained confirm the potential of the terminal according to Forest: “For this reason we have been asking for a long time to be able to grow, having available larger areas; we hope that an adequate solution can be found, also to keep the traffic of forest products in Genoa “.
