At Café Bricol’, we give “a second life to electrical objects”
Broken iron or coffee maker? Instead of replacing them, learn how to fix them yourself. It is the concept of Cafe DIY. Every month, the Reynerie Services neighborhood board organize workshops, open to all and totally free. “The idea is to encourage residents to avoid wasting by offering them an ecological and accessible alternative”, confides to The Independent Opinion, Chloe Rigal, coordinator of Café Bricol.
Ecological and social added value
This kind of initiative is flourishing all over the Metropolis: Toulouse, Pibrac, Saint-Orens, Ramonville, etc. And for good reason, the workshops have found their audience. “At the Reynerie, it works well. There is a real need in the neighborhood and each session is sold out,” rejoices Chloé Rigal.
The participants will, thanks to the workshops, learn to be autonomous in the repair of small objects. Results, no need to spend on new equipment. At the same time, the initiative reduces its volume of waste, giving its objects a second life.

The Café Brico’ also allows meet new people and build relationships.
They will certainly acquire a know-how which will be useful to them all their life, but we also noticed the social aspect of the workshops. The inhabitants take the time to discuss, a real social bond is created. It’s a real time of exchange and sharing”, welcomes the coordinator.
Looking for volunteers
Generally, people who receive by the concept ask for their help and become volunteers. Their volunteering allows to provide the various workshops organized at the Reynerie. “Among our volunteers, there are former electricians, but also self-taught. By tinkering at home, they have acquired a certain know-how, which they pass on to the participants”, explains Chloé Rigal.
Nevertheless, the association with evil to find volunteers. The latter remain few in number and are much sought after by the various associations of the Metropolis. Thanks to the support of volunteers, electrical objects are often repaired during the session… To the delight of the participants.
