A wave of arrests in Lyon and Paris in a case of thousands of fake health passes
A vast operation was revealed, Tuesday January 25 and Wednesday January 26, in the morning, within the framework of two related investigations in Lyon and Paris, on the manufacture of several tens of thousands of fake health passes, established from misappropriation of professional accounts of a nurse and a doctor.
Eight suspects were arrested and placed in police custody in Lyon, under a judicial investigation opened by the specialized interregional jurisdiction (JIRS) of Lyon, on January 19. According to a judicial source, five other suspected forgers were arrested in the Paris region and in the Lyon region, under the authority of an investigating judge seized by the cyber section of the Paris prosecutor’s office, on December 15, 2021. The suspects, including some are common to both files, are suspected of having participated in a network of production and distribution of false documents to justify vaccination against Covid-19.
According to information from World, the case started from the complaint of a nurse, filed in early December 2021 at the Angers police station. The professional was alerted by the Order of Nurses of the Loire and by a doctor from the Primary Health Insurance Fund (CPAM), on the massive delivery of vaccine passes from the data of his professional account, probably hacked. According to the nurse’s complaint, his account was used to establish more than 54,000 false health passes in his name throughout the national territory, in the space of less than a month, between November and December 2021, while that the nurse had not performed any vaccinations.
The manipulation could have taken place at the end of November
Investigations required by several investigative services – research section of the Poitiers gendarmerie and Angers judicial police – made it possible to benefit from the telephone numbers and digital addresses used in the alleged misappropriation of the nurse’s professional account. The manipulation could have taken place at the end of November. The caregiver noticed that his account was blocked. He got new login codes from the order of nurses by email.
By recovering the Angers nurse’s connection keys from e-mail boxes, the alleged crooks were able to connect with the e-CPS application, reserved for health professionals for the creation of health passes. A few days later, the CPAM de la Loire reported the use of his name in thousands of vaccinations against Covid-19.
