Friday, January 21, the residents of the Academy participated in a conference on Josephine Baker. The opportunity for them to discover this figure of the 20th century, strongly linked to Monaco.

While a tribute was paid to her during the reception in Strasbourg (1-1), on November 28, two days before her induction into the Pantheon, the memory of Joséphine Baker was again evoked by the Club.

A conference on the American actress and singer was held this Friday at the Diagonal, for Academy players currently in Première and Terminale. The goal? Let them know about this heroine of modern times, whose courage and modernity are a source of inspiration for many people.

Josephine Baker’s journey retraced

Under the leadership of the historian Yvan Gastaut, born in Monaco, the young Monegasque shoots have therefore traced the career of Joséphine Baker. From his childhood in Saint Louis in the United States until the end of his life on the Rock, through his involvement in the Resistance during the Second World War and his fight against racism, they were able to measure the extraordinary life of American artist.

They also learned more about the very strong bond that united Josephine Baker to Monaco, where she settled at the end of her life and has been resting there since her disappearance in 1975.

This event was organized in partnership with the LICRA Monacoin which Joséphine Baker worked for a long time and remains an honorary member.
