Slovakia presents its national entry into CoFoE on Thursday
This was confirmed for TASR by the head of Slovak diplomacy Ivan Korčok at Monday’s meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels.
The civic association EuroPolicy is also behind the preparation of the online event dedicated to the Conference on the Future of Europe (CoFoE). The Office of the European Parliament in Slovakia and the Euractiv.sk portal also gave a helping hand.
The event will be opened by Minister Ivan Korčák with an introductory speech. He specified that the Vice-President of the European Commission for Democracy and Demography, Dúbravka Šuicová, and the European Parliament’s CoFoE Coordinator, Guy Verhofstadt, will also speak at the event.
“It will be streamed and I think it is important that we really enter into the discussions now that we have listened to the views of citizens on what Slovakia’s contribution to the Conference on the Future of Europe should be.” Korčok explained.
The head of Slovak diplomacy specified that the event should be seen as part of it “our domestic efforts”which will end the national CoFoE – related phase “the time has come to enter” into the pan-European debate.
Last year, at the end of August, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic prepared a series of events in the Slovak regions within the CoFoE called Roadshow 2021. It was an open discussion with citizens in 25 Slovak cities focused on the future of the EU.
The conference on the future of Europe is due to end in May this year, during the French Presidency of the Council of the EU, so that the European Commission – while still in its current mandate – will have enough time to translate citizens’ recommendations to make relevant and reform proposals.
