The international human rights organization Transparency International (TI) on January 25 released its annual report, which presents the level of coverage of the population with coronavirus in the state district of 180 countries. The Corruption Perceptions Index (Corruption Perceptions Index) has been compiled annually since 1995 on the basis of data from surveys conducted among experiments and circles.
Surveys are conducted by independent organizations. Based on this information, the countries of the world are ranked on a scale from 0 to 100 points. Zero is marked by the highest level of perception of the reaction, one hundred is the lowest. As expected in the TI forecast, the two countries surveyed failed to achieve the required minimum score of 50, causing “absolute cleanliness” and having serious problems with corruption.
Which country is the most corrupt?
In 2021, Transparency International experts considered Denmark, New Zealand and Finland to be the least corrupt in the perception of their population. All of them scored 88 points. They are followed by Singapore, Sweden and Norway (85). Followed by Switzerland (84), the Netherlands (82) and Luxembourg (81). After him – Germany, which moved from 9th to 10th place with 80 points. And in the lowest ranking, South Sudan (180th place with 11 points), Somalia – at 179th and Syria – at 178th place (13 points each) were captured.
Transparency International reveals itself every year
As for the fight against Germany, on behalf of Hartmut Bäumer, head of the German branch of TI, this shows “that we have not progressed very far in relation to corruption, still mixed problems in all sectors of society.”

It inadvertently implicated two Conservative MPs who lost their messages when it was revealed that they used their connections to get almost two million euros from selling masks during the pandemic. Russia in the TI index

Corruption in former post-Soviet countries
Along with the Congo and Burundi, Turkmenistan was ranked 169th among the most corrupt countries with 13 points. In 150th place is Tajikistan, which, like Iran, Guatemala and Guinea, has 25 points. In 144th place – with Uganda and Cameroon – Kyrgyzstan with 27 points. In 140th place – Uzbekistan, along with Myanmar, Mauritania and hunting (all have 28 points). Azerbaijan ranks 128th along with other countries (30 points). This country was involved in several corruption scandals in Europe, it turned out to be an attempt to bribe politicians.

Ukraine was in 122nd place, along with Eswatini (until 2018 the country was called Swaziland. – ed.) scored 32 points and dropped one share compared to 2020. 105th place and 36 points belongs to Moldova and four other countries, including Panama. In 102nd place, together with Sri Lanka and the Gambia, is Kazakhstan (37 points). Belarus is in 82nd place, with 41 points, as are Trinidad and Tobago and East Timor.
Armenia is in 58th place with 49 points, as well as Greece, Namibia and a warning. Georgia was in 45th place (55 points) along with Fiji, Botswana and Dominica. Latvia is in 36th, sharing it with Israel and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (59 points). Lithuania is 34th together with Spain (61 points). In 13th place is Estonia, which, together with various countries – Canada, Austria, Ireland and Iceland – scored 74 points. Thus, Georgia and the Baltic countries have overcome the threshold of 50 points. The least corrupt of all post-Soviet countries was Estonia, which is only three positions below Germany. The most corrupt is Turkmenistan.
How the situation in the world has changed
As noted in TI, since 2012, 25 countries are at risk and their perception index. Particularly significant changes occurred in the Seychelles – this state has risen by 18 positions, in Armenia (by 15) and in Lithuania (by 14). At the same time, performance deteriorated in 23 countries. The most significant negative changes occurred in St. Lucia, as well as in Cyprus and in oncology – the countries fell down by 13 positions.
In addition, according to the report, corruption is dangerous for the rule of law. At the end of 2021, Turkey and Hungary were among the countries where corruption arose to strengthen authoritarian income. The more changes in the country, the more human rights are restricted, TI emphasizes and Nicaragua is given as an example.
But the democratic countries, which have always ranked among the best in the fight against corruption, testify to the performance in the last 10 years. These include Australia, Canada and the United States. Thus, the Community of Australia did not enter the 25th number of countries with the best energy consumption index and dropped to 27th place in 2021.
