The change of central defender Julian Chabot (24) from Sampdoria Genoa to 1. FC Köln is taking on clearer contours. It could be quick now.
Will probably appear for Cologne soon: Julian Chabot.
The left foot, who was born in Hanau, could join the team of coach Steffen Baumgart on Wednesday, who says with a view to the Cologne test on Thursday against FC Schalke (1 p.m.): “When he’s there, he also plays. I hope he’s there and able to play.”
Chabot is said to cost Cologne around 300,000 euros in rental fees, the last Rafael Czichos and Jorge Meré need contributions and additions in central defense. According to the Italian media, FC is said to have signed a purchase commitment for 2.7 million euros, which, however, is subject to conditions that have to be met.
While it is not yet certain when Chabot will arrive in Cologne, it should be clear that U-19 player Rijad Smajic (17) will be used in the Schalke test. Smajic plays for the Bosnian U-19 side and is considered a top talent. Baumgart: “He should play. That’s why we have the boys with us. If everything goes normally, he’ll play 45 minutes.”
