Aid from the Métropole de Lyon for Villeurbanne culture
For its first edition, the “French Capital of Culture” has chosen to award its label to the city of Villeurbanne.
To support this initiative, the Metropolis of Lyon will release an envelope of 300,000 euros, which will be added to the million euros designated by the organization of this competition. The challenge of this subsidy will be to perpetuate the first aid won following the national competition. Indeed, as part of its cultural strategy for the period 2021-2026, the Metropolis wishes to develop culture as a lever for social and territorial inclusion, in particular through artistic and cultural education (EAC).
The municipality had decided to orient its candidacy towards young people, through two axes: artistic and cultural education, as well as a “high season”, accompanied by cultural proposals and events created with the youth, but also proposals. The program focuses on the issues of social inclusion, while having a dimension of ”going towards” the people furthest from the cultural offer, and this at the scale of the territory.
The president of the Métropole Bruno Bernard was pleased with this victory: “I once again congratulate Cédric Van Styvendael, Mayor of Villeurbanne and Vice-President of the Metropolis of Lyon in charge of culture, for having won this title, and for putting his city, and our territory, in the spotlight through of this great project. Being a support for Villeurbanne ”capital of culture 2022” is not only to promote our policy, but above all it is to create a feeling of belonging for all Greater Lyonnais , around highlights, we bring everyone together and promote the entire territory”.
In total, no less than 700 events, 200 concerts, 30 festivals or even 22 heritage competitions will be organized by the Villeurbannaise city.
