Sweden’s RGNT retro-styled electric motorcycles are coming to America
The Swedish electric motorcycle manufacturer RGNT has now opened orders for American drivers and has finally brought its retro-styled electric motorcycles to the state.
When we first started covering RGNT over two and a half years ago, the company was a newly started startup with a nice sketch and a lot of enthusiasm.
As the design changed and developed over the next few years, the company battled production problems from the covid-19 pandemic that plagued almost every manufacturing company around the world.
In September last year, RGNT finally opened pre-orders for European customers, and now the company has followed up with US pre-orders just a few short months later.
On its way to production, the 125 km / h (77 mph) electric motorcycle received a number of component upgrades, such as an improved suspension fork with increased durability and smoother driving characteristics, as well as new Galfer brake rotors.
It is also divided into two models, RGNT No. 1 Classic or RGNT No. 1 Scrambler.
Both models share the same driveline, with an 11 kW rear hub motor and a 7.7 kWh battery pack. The bike has a maximum range of 120 km (75 miles), which means that this is largely an urban motorcycle with the ability to make a few short excursions on the highway.
At 156 kg (343 lb), the bikes are not light, but they are not as heavy as most flagship electric motorcycles either.
However, the models include several features found on the sleeker and more expensive e-engines, such as a seven-inch color screen and built-in GPS function.
Both the front and rear J. Juan brakes are powered by hand levers, which is likely to be an annoyance to older riders and a welcome feature for younger riders who have embarked on electric motorcycles without having already spent several years on gas bikes with clutches.
The classic No. 1 is price 12,495 USD and requires a $ 150 deposit, while the No. 1 Scrambler is priced higher to $ 13,495. The track-optimized Scrambler has “tow on / off road tires on wide aluminum rims, fork gauges and improved suspension to take you beyond the paved asphalt of the city jungle.”
Bicycles destined for the US coasts are expected to be shipped in December 2022, with deliveries scheduled for early 2023.
With companies like RGNT, NIU, UBCO, Sur Ron and Black Tea all expected to bring their electric motorcycles to the United States next year, Americans will see the number of locally available alternatives increase significantly.
