Current situation in the field of interethnic relations in the Republic of Moldova, discussed by President Maia Sandu with the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities – Ziarul de Garda
The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, had a meeting on Monday, January 24, with the High Commissioner of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) for National Minorities, Kairat Abdrakhmanov. The officials discussed the current situation in the field of interethnic relations in our country, but also about the cooperation with this structure of the OSCE.
“The head of state mentioned that for the Moldovan authorities it is a priority to strengthen the society, so that every citizen feels safe, enjoys equal rights and knows that there are chances for personal and professional development. An element of social cohesion could be the programs through which the members of the ethnic communities to learn the Romanian language, but also, in parallel, their mother tongue ”, states the Presidency.
The Head of State, Maia Sandu, thanked the OSCE for its assistance in the process of developing the Strategy for Consolidating Interethnic Relations in the Republic of Moldova for the years 2017-2027.
On December 30, 2016, The government led by Pavel Filip approved the Strategy for consolidating interethnic relations in the Republic of Moldova for the years 2017-2027.
The document aims to facilitate interethnic concord, encourage diversity including Moldovan societies by integrating national minorities in various spheres of state life, ensure equality of citizens regardless of ethnicity, culture, language, compliance with national legislation and international standards.
