Pitfalls in transport? What awaits Brno this year
What will happen on the roads
Drivers in the town below Špilberk will not be spared the pitfalls while driving. The implementation of two sections of the Great City Ring Road will continue, in Žabovřeská Street and Tomkova náměstí. The first vehicles should drive on them in 2024. However, they will be supplemented by another part of the VMO, this time in Bauerova Street near the Riviera swimming pool and the Brno Exhibition Grounds. During the reconstruction, which should start here at the end of the summer, for example, pedestrian crossings will disappear, which in the future road will cross the footbridges, as well as public transport stops. Buses serve the place in another way. On the contrary, new sidewalks will be created for pedestrians.
However, for example, the bridge in the busy Otakar Ševčík Street will be repaired and motorists in Hradecká and Sportovní streets will come across work. It will not be idle on regional roads either. Road workers will start the construction of the Čebín u Tišnova bypass, and drivers will also notice the delayed reconstruction of road 53 between Lechovice and Znojmo. Work can’t avoid the highway either. In the South Moravian metropolis, our longest motorway will extend between the exits on the D2 and the D52, and will be repaired at Vyškov, specifically at the exit from the D1 or at the local airport.
Train transport
Most of the year 2022 will be in the spirit of the train closure between the South Moravian metropolis and Blansko. Repairs of tracks, bridges and tunnels for six billion crowns will continue on the busiest section of the whole of South Moravia. Specifically, it concerns the modernization of intermediate stations of the sections between Brno-Maloměřice and Blansko and reconstruction
Adamov station, which will, among other things, receive new platforms. “The implementation of all constructions will improve the technical condition and parameters of the line, allow to increase the speed of trains and ensure higher safety and reliability of operation. Passengers will then welcome barrier-free access to the platform in Adamov and at the newly renovated stops, “said Jiří Svoboda, General Manager of the Railway Administration. The connection with Brno is provided by alternative transport, for example, the Brno transport company reacted to the situation. The operation of, for example, tram line 4 and bus E75, 211 or 210 is regulated.
In addition to complications for passengers on the South Moravian railways, welcome news. New trains will be put into operation, and the acquisition will become the largest investment in the South Moravian Region this year. The cost of 37 sets, which should be brought to the region by the end of the year, will climb to almost 6.7 billion crowns.
Public transport
The year 2022 will bring news or completion of some long-term projects in Brno’s public transport. “Despite the complicated situation caused by driving losses and rising energy prices, we still have to move forward in the modernization of the vehicle fleet and the renewal of tram lines,” said Miloš Havránek, General Manager of the Brno City Transport Company (DPMB). DPMB plans to invest approximately 1.5 billion crowns in construction and machinery projects. For example, the tram line in the section Bohunická – Moravanské Lány will be modified, so during the summer holiday months passengers must reckon with the exclusion of public transport. In the same period, due to the reconstruction, it will also cover the Osová – Starý Lískovec line.
In the second half of the year, work will begin on the third stage of the modernization of the writer’s depot. The Lipová loop will be built during it, which will allow trams running closer to Bystrce than at the Mendlovo náměstí junction. The end of this year should also bring the completion of the project of a tram connection to the University individual campus and work will begin on the relocation of networks and foundation structures of the cable car buildings in the BVV complex. This led from the future multifunctional hall in the exhibition grounds through two intermediate stops to the final tram in front of the Brno University Hospital.
