Monaco, new shareholder of TV5MONDE

The businessman, with multiple hats in the Principality, had already created a company in SARL which will be transformed into a public limited company where the Monegasque State will have a presence in the capital.

The channel should produce a TV news, documentaries and talk shows on subjects close to the heart of Prince Albert: the environment, the Mediterranean, digital technology, sport and culture.
It is this future channel which will be partly broadcast by TV5MONDE in a vast territory covering 200 countries, 404 million homes and reaching 60 million viewers. TV5MONDE will take over the Monte-Carlo Riviera TV news once a day and will be able to broadcast certain documentaries.
Audiovisual revival on the Rock
On Thursday, December 9, 2021, the Principality of Monaco’s membership of TV5MONDE was formalized with the signature by Mr. Laurent Anselmi, Government Counselor – Minister of External Relations and Cooperation, of the TV5 Charter, treaty founder of operators TV5MONDE and TV5 Québec Canada, and an Agreement defining the practical terms of this membership.
The Principality of Monaco thus becomes the sixth government donor to TV5MONDE alongside Canada, the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, France, Quebec and Switzerland.
Monaco’s membership was one of the priorities of the 2021-2024 strategic plan of Yves Bigot (the CEO of TV5MONDE) of TV5MONDE approved at the end of 2020. The Monegasque government is now associated with the annual Conference of Ministers responsible for defining the orientations Channel strategies and set the budget contributions of each partner government.
Heading for Eurovision
In the process, Monaco plans to return to the competition of Eurovision Song Contest. The government has budgeted the sum of €100,000 to finance participation in 2023.
