Got heart inflammation after refresher dose

Sugar Mizzy January 23, 2022

– I did a lot of research before I decided to the booster. I actually made a choice that it would not be worth it for me, says Peter Landstad to Dagbladet.

Four days before he had to move to the Danish city of Randers to study, he did it anyway.

The reason, says Landstad, was them new requirements from the EU, which means that fully vaccinated people must take a refresher dose to obtain an indefinite valid corona passport. In Denmark, where you can present a corona passport in a number of contexts, has vaccination with for dosing and limited duration of five months for persons over 18 years.

– When I felt a lot of pressure to take the vaccine, even though I did not want it. The alternative had been to stay at home, he says.

– Chest pain

On Saturday last week, the same day he arrived in Denmark, the 24-year-old noticed that something was wrong.

– I started to get pain in my chest and heart. It gradually became the next day. It was not so easy to get a play since I had just come down, but I finally called the play guard, he says.

At the emergency room, a number of tests were required before he was referred to the cardiology department at the Randers Regional Hospital. After a number of new tests, according to Landstad, it was concluded that he had a mild inflammation in the heart sac.

– They could not say it with certainty, but thought it could be linked to the corona vaccine, he says.

– The interesting thing is that those at the vaccination center from the council must be Modern precisely because of the risk of heart inflammation. I therefore took Pfizer, but I got whatever they warned against, and that was the reason why I initially did not want a refresher dose.

Pericarditis and myocarditis

Myocarditis is an inflammation of the heart muscle, which can occur as a complication in a large number of people with viruses and bacteria, in certain poisonings and as part of allergic reactions. The disease will most often be cured on its own, without any particular sailings, but can also become severely severe.

Pericarditis is an inflammation of the heart sac that surrounds the heart. It is often not possible to say what caused the inflammation, but the most common cause seems to be a viral infection. It is usually not dangerous and it can often be treated simply, but no one can get serious.

Common symptoms of myo- and pericarditis are: Chest pain, difficulty breathing, palpitations, feeling of pressure in the chest and disturbances of the heart rhythm.

Chest pain can be a sign of serious problems, including a heart attack. You are therefore encouraged to seek medical attention immediately in case of chest pain.

Rare side effects

Most people experience mild side effects from the mRNA vaccines against covid-19. After more than ten million vaccine injections, 242 cases of myocarditis (pericarditis) and 133 cases of myocarditis (myocarditis) have been reported in Norway so far.

This summer, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) topped a list of rare side effects of corona vaccines.

– The few cases that have been observed are fortunately quite mild, and those who are affected seem to return quickly after proper treatment and rest. After hundreds of millions of vaccine doses distributed globally, we still see a clear positive benefit / risk profile on several different patient groups and age groups, writes communications manager Joachim Henriksen in Pfizer Norway in an e-mail.

– The race is over

The conditions have often occurred after other doses, and in younger men.

As for the third dose, it is according to National Institute of Public Health did not set increased incidence of heart inflammation after vaccination. However, the data base is sparse, explains subject director Hanne Løvdal Gulseth in FHI, because it is only in recent weeks that the age group 18 to 44 years has begun to be offered this.

– FHI will closely monitor the occurrence, Gulseth writes in an e-mail.

She recommended that the institute has recommended people under the age of 30 to choose the vaccine from Pfizer / Biontech, as the precondition for other doses was highest among young people who had received the Moderna vaccine.

– People who have been diagnosed with myocarditis after the first or second dose of vaccine, it is recommended to discuss with their own doctor about advanced and most probably not to the third dose of vaccine, writes the subject director.

Critical of EU rule

Peter Landstad was discharged from the hospital in Randers the same day he was admitted. The condition was no more serious than it could be treated with Ibux.

The next day, the form is on the road to recovery.

– It goes up and down a bit. The chest pain comes back when I exert myself, I get released quickly and it is difficult to sleep. But I have a threat that it will go well, he says.

However, he is critical of the EU’s decision to require a refresher dose for a valid corona passport with no time limits for everyone, including those who are well protected after that. The same is the subject director Frode Forland in FHI, who has previously stated to Dagbladet that this is a problematic position for Norway.

– Here, people may feel compelled to take a third dose, which in the beginning may not need it, so Forland, the day after becoming known.

The National Institute of Public Health recommendation is at persons between 18 and 44 years of age who are at risk or selected stages of pregnancy, ought to get vaccinated with the third dose. For everyone else in the current age group, FHI’s recommendation is that they able to get vaccinated with the third dose – if they want to.
