Genoa made of Lego, Luigi Berio’s little dream
The illustrator, animator and director, who also worked with Lele Luzzati, built a small Genoa measuring 12.8 × 12.8 centimeters with the program put online by the brick manufacturer, complete with Bigo, Lanterna, elevated and Magazzini. of Cotton. That it becomes standard, however, is far from obvious, unless, for example, the Municipality and the Chamber of Commerce intervene
Luigi Berio is an illustrator, designer and director of animated films (GENOVA Sinfonia della Città with Emanuele Luzzati and, more recently, STOP Let’s Change Our Future, an animated symphony on environmental protection). Since 2002 he has been artistic director in the three areas of Arteprima: design, culture and animation. In this role he designed urban installations (including a large iron and steel cube for the Municipality of Genoa, 2004), museum installations and exhibitions. He has reworked the brand identity of numerous foundations and cultural institutions as well as taking care of the publication of illustrated books and art catalogs.
In Genoa he is also known for having purchased the archive of Renzo Giovanni Battista Picasso, born in 1880, who grew up in the world of architecture and urban planning and the author of extraordinary inspirations that he left drawn: the Art Nouveau skyscraper at the Carignano roundabout and the underground under via XX.
In recent days, Berio has tried his hand at the Lego program with which he already designed the Lantern of bricks. The project of the Genoa built with Lego is, for now, a project Lego building, a kind of simplified program like Autocad, what architects.
«The software was created to encourage lego fans – explains Berio -. Those who want it, carry out their project and put it online, after which when the projects projects the 20 thousand likes, the company takes into consideration series production. Monuments in London, New York and Singapore, for example, can be found on the market. Or hit movie characters like Ghostbuster and Back to the Future. I also became a typewriter, a guitar and a pair of shoes “
In short, all things well known all over the world and it is probable, even if a sea of Genoese “vote” for Berio’s project, that Lego will consider it for mass production.
There is a high way, that of ordering a large number of pieces. Msc did, for example, who commissioned some of its fat ships from bricks: they are sold in Lego ministors on board. To order the sets of the “mini Genoa”, for promotional reasons, it could be the Municipality, perhaps in collaboration with economic categories and the Chamber of Commerce.
In the meantime, Berio has booked all the necessary pieces from the side: «The cost of the bricks purchased in bulk is an out of market price for a 13 centimeter“ tile ”. If it became standard it would cost about twenty ”concludes the illustrator.
