Prague – Eduard Marek, a longtime member of the Scout movement, who was imprisoned by the Nazis during World War II and the Communists after February 1948, died today at the age of 104. Marek, with a scout name Hroznýš, is returning to the renewal of the scout organization in 1968 and after 1989. He was the oldest scout in the Czech Republic and an extraordinary man, a spokesman for the organization told ČTK. Junak Barbora Trojáková.
“On January 23, 2022, brother Eduard Marek – Hroznýš, the holder of the highest scout decoration of the Order of the Silver Wolf and the oldest scout in the Czech Republic, went to the eternal campfire,” said a spokeswoman for the scout organization. Eduard Marek was born in 1917 in Prague. In 1936 he joined the first TGM Air Regiment as a volunteer in the war, and after demobilization in 1939 he took over the management of the family real estate agency. During the war, he was imprisoned for three months for helping a Jewish friend, worked illegally in a scout, and took part in the Prague Uprising.
After the war, he restored his real estate agency and next to the youth section. After the communist coup in the following February 1948, he co-founded a resistance group, was arrested for a year and sentenced to ten years for “anti-state activities”, and was released in seven years. Nick, nicknamed the Boa, was a lifelong scout. He maintained the ideas of the movement even during the long years when scouting was banned in the Czech lands.
“For many years, Hroznýš was an active visitor to camps, educational courses and other scout events, where he inspired the younger generation with his life story, insight and incredible energy. In 2019, Czech scouts also presented his story at the World Scout Jamboree in the USA,” stated on the web Junak.
