the small town of Laleu has lost its tranquility
Traffic of heavy goods vehicles, parking problems… For three years, the construction site of a future residence of 45 apartments has been annoying residents
André Citron and Serge Constant are old inhabitants of the city of Laleu. And for some time, they no longer recognize their peaceful neighborhood, north of La Rochelle. HGV traffic, parking problems, torn telephone cables, potholed roads… The two residents list the many nuisances suffered over the past three years.
In question: the construction site of a future residence of 45 apartments, built in place of the former Bois-Joli school. Since the green light for the building permit in 2017, André Citron, member of the neighborhood committee, and Serge Constant, member of the collective of the city of Laleu, have not taken off against a real estate program that confinement and several poor workmanship are dragging out. . “It’s an invasion!” Sometimes we are completely forbidden to park in the streets to let the trucks pass, sometimes we suffer from the nuisance of concrete mixers that turn all day, ”denounces Serge Constant.
floods
But the two men, unbeatable on the history of their district, also regret that such a building grows on an old marsh fed by the old Guyadères canal and two underground sources. There was even a pond at one time and the site was long called “the lake”. In short: under their feet always flows a lot of water.
Supporting photos – which they have taken since the start of construction – show the repeated flooding of what will later be the parking spaces in the basement and the workers who sometimes work with water up to mid-calf. “The construction site is flooded regularly and is only running thanks to the dewatering pumps. What will it give later? When the car parks of the future residence are unusable, where will they park? Will the rest of the wooded area have to be razed to create a parking lot? asks André Citron. Another topic that angered the two men was cut down century-old trees, which they saw passing by in a truck.
