Slovakia was hit by a wave of AUCTION: Fico did not stay!
In the video, Fico also pointed out that Smer-SD had asked the National Council of the Slovak Republic at least five times last year to present a plan to alleviate this pressure.
He also wants to propose to the parliamentary session, which begins on February 1, that the government present a timetable for action as opposed to rising prices. The leader of the Direction stated this at Saturday’s press conference.
You can see the full statement of the leader of Smer, in the video:
Smer-SD was buying eight basic groceries in four neighboring countries and compared the purchase prices. He paid the least in Poland and Hungary. Most in the Czech Republic and Austria. According to the comparison of Smer’s purchase, Slovakia is in the middle.

“The sharp rise in energy and staple food prices in practice will mean that the family spends one salary just for the price,” Fico stated. He added that neither the government nor the president of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Čaputová is paying any attention to the increase. Richard Takáč, vice-president of Smer-SD, indicated that Hungary and Poland were taking steps to reduce food prices.
“Our government is nothing. Our government is asleep,” he noted. According to him, the Minister of Agriculture Samuel Vlčan (OĽANO nominee) has a great power of food to stabilize prices. Takáč, for example, proposes to continue reducing VAT on basic foodstuffs. The government should then control the VAT chain, or reduced the pass-through to prices.

He also talks about the possibilities of the government and the agricultural sector to negotiate intensively with individual retail chains. “In Slovakia they have a more benevolent operation, in other countries governments are harder on them,” claims Takáč. According to Takáč, the Ministry of Agriculture can benefit from preferential loans for farmers and foodstuffs through a guarantee development bank.
It can also reduce the tax and tax burden on agricultural and food workers. The price of electricity may also decrease, Takáč recommends. Fico said that if the coalitions came up with a proposal to reduce VAT on food, Smer would support the proposal.
