Léa Fehner will shoot “Midwives” in Toulouse and Saint-Gaudens
The director will shoot for three weeks, in Toulouse and Saint-Gaudens, the fiction “Midwives” for Arte.
We remember the stunning “Les Ogres” (2016) with Adèle Haenel, Marc Barbé and François Fehner which portrayed with strength and brilliance the world of traveling theater but also “Que un tienne et les autres surront” (2009), which evoked the fate of prisoners and those who visited them in prison. For “Midwives”, it’s a completely different universe than the director’s approach. Léa Fehner and her co-screenwriter Catherine Paillé wrote the film based on workshops with final-year students from the National Conservatory of Dramatic Art in Paris, eleven of whom made up the main cast. Among them: Héloïse Janjaud (“The Battle of the Rail” and the series “A Man of Honour” and “The Red Bracelets”) and Khadija Kouyaté (actress, theater director of “De Utio or the eyes of Cedda” (2021) and “La Lettre d’une anonyme” (2019). The story, produced by Geko Films and Arte France, recounts the journeys of Héloïse and Sofia who have performed in the world of work after 5 years apprenticeship in the “most beautiful profession in the world”, midwife. The expression has amused them since their first internships, when they clean up blood, amniotic fluid, vomit. But there, school is over, etc. t is the start of working life. Friends for life, against all odds, Sofia and Héloïse plunge headlong into a powerful universe where they will be confronted with fundamental situations: birth, motherhood and sometimes death. friendship withstand such a storm? As the screenplay announces, “For there to be life, there must be have the cry. Life begins in this extreme violence. »
